Brandes-Ostrin Family

by adminuser on August 1, 2010

We first met Annette when our daughter was in elementary school, she is now 21. Samantha is our eldest child, who happens to be adopted. Annette enlightened us and shared her wisdom with our family. She knew how to work magic. She gave Samantha a Mickey Mouse helium balloon, which Samantha treasured and kept for many years …

We were involved in an open adoption through Vista del Mar, and it was Annette who made the suggestion of Samantha taking a trip to visit her birthmother, Rachel, when Samy was in middle school. It was a wonderful experience for both Rachel and Samantha. When Samantha became a Bat Mitzvah, her birthmother and birth grandmother were included in the festivities and participated in the candle lighting ceremony. When Samantha graduated high school, her birth mother and her husband, as well as their two sons, drove cross country to watch the ceremony and to stay with us for a week.

Annette requested Samantha participate in a panel discussion at the Beverly Hilton on Open Adoption. Her birth grandmother and I watched proudly as she participated and shared her views.

Samantha, as well as the rest of our family will always hold a very special place in our hearts for Annette, a very special woman. May her memory be a blessing. We will miss her, and the twinkle in her eyes.
